So I really Like Lady GaGa's music. Her single Just Dance is seriously played on heavy rotation on my iPod.  Love it!

I heard this song "Love Games" this past weekend at a work conference and wanted to download it immediately but it is not out yet!! When I first moved to Houston in 1990, I remember happening upon an All Access cable channel that was all Indian.  It was in English, but was geared for Houston's rather large (and growing)  Indian community.

I've always wanted to learn more about that which exists outside my realm, so I'd tune in on occasion.  I'd  watch the talk shows and some news programs and I remember marveling at the groovy saris and jewelry on the women, but nothing...NOTHING was more entertaining than watching....

Indian music videos.

Man oh man, if you have not feasted your eyes upon a full scale Bollywood production of an  Indian music video, than you, my reader-jaan, are missing out.

These epic productions are nothing less than a spectacle and every one of them is choreographed in this Fosse-esque, Tharpian splendor.  Throw in some Michael Kidd and we're talking scenes that would make Busby Berkely think straight.

The themes are almost always the same.  The setting is either in a town square or in a field or a Ramada Inn banquet hall or something.  There's a lead guy, usually a roguishly handsome looking bloke (handsome by Indian standards--in this particular video's case, picture a young, even swarthier but spastic Franco Harris) and a beautiful leading woman (beautiful by Universal standards, thank you) and they are (seemingly) flirting with each other by writhing and cavorting about in rhythmic undulations to a sitar-lead techno orchestra and a bevy of backup dancers--all gender specific.

She has her all chick cast of dancers behind her and he has his male minions clad in brightly colored, polyester leisure suits by Farrah and as best I can tell, each one is having a carefully syncopated petit mal seizure set to music.

He sings and she shrieks in this high-pitched adenoidal studio affect. Throw in some "Bob Mackie for GAP" wardrobe changes, a few truly horrible edits and you've got some kind of video!!!

Based upon the many Indian music videos I've seen, these things appear to be standard operating procedure.  They're great to watch and lively as taj-mahell.

Now, what I've just conveyed to you is the perfect preface for this absolutely hilarious video I found on You Tube.  It's a translation of what a Hindi (at least, I think it's Hindi)  music video would sound like if we insist on listening to it with ears than can only comprehend bastardized English.

I recommend watching it first and reading the subtitles; once you have the full hilarious effect, watch it second time, but focus on the dancers and the dancing.

I don't know who Buffalax is, but he "translated" the subtitles.

Nikk who had been dancing, seemed to sit out for a bit and let us lot get on with it, think he was wondering what he was doing here with all these women.  There was one other guy there but he just sat there all night without joining in.

Think Nikk was only taking a breather though, as he was soon back up on his feet and organising a chorus line, it was great fun.

The music was brilliant, it was from all the old shows and suited the dance routine.  We did have some bits in the dance though were we fell to the floor gyrating a bit, this was quite unexpected and I worried in case I split my dress, not being too sure of what I had on underneath as I got dressed in a hurry!!

As you can see though,  Hib was really good at the splits, and we were both very flexible (and we both had the giggles behind our keyboards!!)

We had a great night and a lot of fun, even Marilyn Munroe turned up and she looked just like the original in her shocking pink dress.

These forces are working for me, this man is coming for me, and I want it so badly, yet... I'm not moving!! The sudden, jolting thought woke me from my trance-like state... and I found my eyes staring directly into those beautiful brown eyes I'd dreamed of for so many nights.

América Multicolor, Canción, Poesía, Danza e Imagen con Patricia Elena Vlieg

América Multicolor es una experiencia multisensorial en donde la música, la palabra, la danza y el color buscan hacernos percibir con todos los sentidos a esa América en donde se hermanan la nieve y el desierto, los llanos y la puna, los lagos y los ríos, las sierras y las costas, el mar y la montaña, el grito y el silencio, el canto y la guitarra…

América Multicolor es mucho más que un recorrido por canciones del acerbo cultural latinoamericano. Es una visión de este continente que abraza y fusiona los diferentes elementos que han ido formando el tejido de nuestra identidad.

Este espectáculo, que tendrá lugar el jueves 2 de Octubre en el Teatro Anayansi del Centro de Convenciones Atlapa, empezó como una idea acariciada por Patricia Elena Vlieg. Esta cantante, compositora y arreglista panameña, eterna enamorada de la música latinoamericana y su tradición, es la creadora de este montaje que nos conduce a través de épocas, paisajes, retratos, emociones y sentimientos.

Al proyecto se han sumado profesionales de la talla de Bruce Quinn, reconocido productor y director artístico, Dino Nugent, pianista y director musical, Oscar Stagnaro, ganador de varios premios Grammies como bajista acompañante de Paquito D’Rivera y un grupo selecto de músicos, bailarines y otros talentos.

“América Multicolor” promete ser un evento inolvidable, un acercamiento a nuestras raíces profundas y un encuentro en el que la alegría, la música y la creatividad se dan cita para hacer resonar las fibras más íntimas de nuestro ser.

Patricia Elena Vlieg es Vocalista, compositora y arreglista es, además, ejecutante de teclados y guitarra. Su trabajo combina una gran diversidad de ritmos y estilos enraizados en la tradición latinoamericana con elementos de Jazz y otros géneros.

Avanzados los 90s aparece en Sudamérica, un personaje que se hace conocer por hits como Ponte a Brincar y una versión de Short Dick Man.
Cada vez que se escuchaba alguna de sus canciones, la pista estallaba.
Machito Ponce era el dueño del baile, y con melodías pegadizas y muletillas como Te lo digo pana, no es chacotera y Ahola te voy a poner a gozalll, lo que te digo no es iacotera, chulo, vaina, pana, brother, junto a su simulación puertorriqueña, gano rápidamente fans que solo pedían eso, alguien que los ¨ponga a gozal!
Edita su primer disco, Ponte a Brincar (1995) y aparecen más hits:
Pórtelo, Esa Mujer Puede Acabar Contigo, (la vieja) Cotorra Criolla, Te Voy A Poner A Gozar, Báilalo Gózalo... el disco casi completo. Todo un éxito. Se vendieron muchísimas copias y mirando en foros me entero que hasta un Dj ruso que vivió en argentina, pasa hasta el día de hoy sus temas. (referencia)

Machito Ponce, querido por algunos repudiado por otros. La música es así, te puede gustar o no, pero decir que es menos artista porque no cumple nuestras expectativas es ser injusto.
Lo que hizo y nos dejo, pertenece a una época, y en esa época todos lo bailaron y todos lo corearon. Que hoy el sonido y las costumbres no sean las mismas no lo hace inferior ni a el ni tantos artistas que diez años después los ¨matamos¨ con criticas injustas.

Que buenos recuerdos los de Machito Ponce. Por esa época pasaba música en mi país vecino Uruguay y les puedo garantizar que el éxito que cuento es verdad.
Machito Ponce se llama originalmente Gustavo Radaelli y no es puertorriqueño como se decía. Nació en Wilde, Buenos Aires, Argentina el 31 de agosto de 1965 y con gran éxito a sus 30 años supo aprovechar lo que estaba viviendo.
El caso Coppola, que involucró a Diego Maradona y un par de mujeres (más info.), fue inspiración para otro hit que dio que hablar. El tema se llamo Samantha y se lo incluyo en la segunda edición de su segundo disco Malas Costumbres (1996).

Gustavo, diez años antes, junto a Darío Moscatelli (voz de los The Sacados), Rosana Cortéz, Adrián Guardia y Carlos Casa formo un grupo llamado Vecinos Molestos. También se dedicó a componer, crear jingles publicitarios y producir a otros grupos.
Luego de ser Machito Ponce, da un giro brusco para dedicarse al culto del rock sinfónico. Se integra al grupo 70 + 20, que estaba formado por Cristian Del Gesso, Eduardo Ayliffe, Beto Seipel, Emilio Espinoza y Jorge Fiasche.
Luego de disolverse en 1999, a mediados de 2000, junto a Cristián Del Gesso, Gustavo Mari, Ricardo Mari y Juan Pablo Cieri, forman Rockestra, banda que hace covers de grandes del rock.

En el año 1992 yo estaba viviendo en Bs.As. y andaba por una productora, haciendo algo así como llevar las novedades a las radios, llamada Abraxas (luego ABR) ubicada sobre calle Callao, recuerdo haberlo cruzado en mas de una oportunidad, solo que en aquel entonces no era popular. No estoy seguro si era el ya que lo reconocí años mas tarde cuando lo volví a ver en las fotos de los CDs. Y ya que nombre esa empresa aprovecho para mandar un gran abrazo a Carlos Gambini de Abraxas, gran amigo por aquel entonces.
